The women´s network Informatica Feminale is a place to exchange about technical and social developments, which we meet in our every-day life and which are designed by ourselves as technical experts. Additionally, a special focus program will be arranged.

Focus 2020 – Boundaries of the Body
(Women’s) Bodies are sites of technological developments. Boundaries and limits become increasingly blurred: either through the optimization of health parameters, or the digital and technical enhancement of the body, up to unregulated collection of body-related data, and the bodies suffering the consequences of technology-based warfare. The Summer University 2020 wants to give space and time for critical reflections and highly welcomes experimental debates on the relations of technological knowledge and developments in societies. We especially invited teaching offers, which deal with applications of technical know-how in spaces for work and life (for example within care, education, health, food, household, mobility, social networking, publicity, sports, militarization, etc.) from feminist perspectives.

Companies with gender sensible organizational concepts and successful personal management strategies to promote women engineers to a broad spectrum of leading positions are invited to present their best practices to the participants of Informatica Feminale. There will be plenty of other opportunities to sponsor.

International Summer Courses for Women in Computing

Every year the Informatica Feminale offers compact teachings in computing and ICT for women students of all types of universities and colleges as well as for women professionals interested in further training.
Entering higher education, developing a student career, transition into labour market and lifelong academic learning are equally in the field of vision.

Inter/national lecturers and students meet at the Informatica Feminale in Bremen, Germany to exchange.

For human resources managers we are particullarly pointing out that, during the whole summer school there will be plenty of opportunities to sponsor and to get in touch with graduates.

Review 2019

Dear Participants, Lecturers, Friends and Sponsors of the Summer Universities 2019,

we look back on three exciting weeks full of work intensive and inspiring courses, interesting and pioneering talks, exciting and sometimes controversial discussions, entertaining and delicious networking events during the summer universities Informatica Feminale and Ingenieurinnen-Sommeruni 2019 in Bremen. Some 190 participants studied in 50 courses and took part in a diverse social program with talks, excursions and networking events.

Our thanks…
As organizing team we thank our sponsors, especially thanks to their friendly staff members for support, the interesting talks and the personal insights into their working life.

A big ‘Thanks’ goes to our fantastic lecturers – the new as well as the familiar – for the exciting, personal and compact teaching.

Many thanks also to all the participants for active participation, discussions, comments and criticism, networking and collegiality.

Last but not least we warmly thank our student assistants team at the conference office and cafeteria. Keeping calm in hectic situations and with high commitment you ensured the success of the three weeks.

Our Review…
Our focus 2019

“Women´s Network – Feminist Networking!”

was present as content of courses and part of the social program in discussions and acitivities of participants during the summer universities.

This year we introduced a new format with the special topic days: Gender and Media, Gender in Language, Gender in Higher Education. On Wednesdays, all course participants come together with their lecturers during their teaching time, to follow a talk and discussion. All participants of the summer universities are welcome; the talk is mandatory and not public.

Our motivation is to present the topics about gender diversity and feminist perspectives on teaching and society as cross-cutting issues, to integrate these into teaching and prevent these from “staying aside” of courses in separate courses.

We wish that the special day topics are continued as discussions, the implementation of gender diversity into curricula of all study programs as well as to reflect the contents of teaching, courses and thesis against the background of feminist questions.

The women´s network Informatica Feminale is a place to exchange about technical and social developments, which we meet in our every-day life and which are designed by ourselves as technical experts. The Focus 2019 wants to give space and time for critical reflections and highly welcomes experimental debates on the relations of technological knowledge and developments in societies. We will offer courses, which deal with applications of technical know-how in spaces for work and life from feminist perspectives.

The links and literature hints given by the speakers of the special topic days will be sent by email to all participants.

Our Outlook…
We are curious to read your evaluations and to receive you suggestions and wishes. These will be taken into the planning of the next summer university year 2020.

The call for topics and lecturers will be published in December 2019, in February 2020 the program committee will meet. We invite you all to partcipate and look forward to welcome you next summer!

Greetings from Bremen
Veronika Oechtering and Henrike Illig

A place for experimentation in teaching

In 1998 the University of Bremen started the first summer university for women in computing: Informatica Feminale is a place for experimentation and professional exchange, with the intention to develop and imply new impulses in Computer Science and Informatics.

The concept of Informatica Feminale was developed at Bremen University and has been transfered several times to national and international places. Informatica Feminale is organized at Bremenon a yearly basis.
