Is computer science sustainable? Or is it maybe even the enabler of the sustainable life of the future? Or should we go back to pen and pencil? This will be the topic of this seminar, where we will discuss various aspects of sustainability and computer science. WE will learn how to evaluate the sustainability of different services and devices, such as super computers, search engines, travel services, smart phones, etc. We will then discuss how the sustainability can be improved and motivated and develop various ideas for semester projects, master thesis or even start-ups. The seminar is open for everybody with interests in society, sustainability and computer science.

Today biometric fingerprint identification and authentication is everday life technology. The digitized biometric is collected by default, stored and compared officially by default especially in state border crossings.
During the workshop the implementation of a small biometric AFIS should be made against the background of the following questions:
What concepts of identity are implemented in the technical components and algorithms computable in a biometric system? What do the statistics of failure rates recorded in laboratory tests of the systems mean? Does disassembling the black box allow us a "digitally literate" handling of biometric systems?
