Course description:
According to the UN, deepfake pornography made up 98 per cent of all deepfake videos online, and 99 per cent depicted women [1]. Still, most reports about deepfakes online consider economic losses as the most relevant issue.
Technology has never been neutral. The seminar aims to create a feminist lens when looking at technology and its interaction with society. We must understand what was (or was not considered) when making a design choice, and why we decided to solve societal problems with technology, or how and why humans choose to interact with a technical device.
The seminar introduces important concepts of feminist theories and their understanding of technology. Going on, we turn to several issues relevant to answer the questions asked above. We will cover matters like design ethics, the “myth of neutrality”, and the division of labour and care in creating technology. Students will trace their own understand of “Feminism” and challenge their point of view on technology.

Biography: Marieke Petersen
Ich promoviere am Lehrstuhl für eingebettete Systeme der Universität Passau zu Technologieakzeptanz von Zukunftstechnologien. Zusätzlich bin ich Referentin bei der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. für Cybersicherheit und digitale Souveränität. In meiner Arbeit befasse ich mich mit den Auswirkungen von Technik auf Einzelpersonen und gesellschaftliche Strukturen, sowie die politische Steuerung von technologischer Entwicklung und spreche dazu.
