Documentation of 14th Summer University for Women in Informatics

 

Informatica Feminale – the 14th international summer university for women students and professionals in Informatics was organized by University of Bremen from September 5th to September 16th in 2011.

 

110 international participants experienced two weeks of professional studies and establish networks with women having manifold backgrounds.

 

The Informatica Feminale 2011 combined courses in the following fields:

- Robotics and technical networks

- Mobile web and the Internet

- Software development as a process

- Data base management systems

- Interdisciplinary Informatics

- Unix/ Linux

- Competences for study and work

- Key skill writing

- Work-life-balance


Courses were taught with one-week and half-a-week length, as well as short workshops. There were specific courses for student beginners as well as for advanced students and for practitioners who got further education on a current academic level.

 

The daily closing consisted of a public talk in the context of a lecture series.

 

A JobForum with international companies and a talks from recruiting officers was presented on Wednesday, 7th September 2011. In the evening we presented the first Women MINT-Slam.

 

Last but not least sports and the networking party with current participants and alumni offered a perfect stay in Bremen.

 

Thanks to everybody who advised women students or colleagues to take part at our summer universities and who supported them financially.
